The Gambling Community Benefit Fund
The Gambling Community Benefit Fund was established in 1994 as a joint initiative of the Queensland Government
and the club and hotel industries. The Fund returns to Queenslanders a percentage of revenue raised from Taxes
placed on Golden Casket lotteries, wagering, keno and gaming machines.
By providing access to financial assistance the Gambling Community Benefit Fund, the Queensland Government demonstrates a strong commitment to ensure, on balance, the community benefits from gambling activities. The Fund is just one way the Queensland Government supports and recognises the significant and vital contributions not-for-profit groups make to the state.
In March 2007 the club applied for a grant through the Gambling Community Benefit Fund. Items requested were:-
- A laptop for administrative use.
- Strength and Conditioning Program. A series of CD's that provide detailed video programs showing exercises for progressing from basic to elite levels of core stability for athletes.
- The purchase of a printable stopwatch for timing athletic running events.
- Kick bikes to assist with motor pattern development and reinforcement of effective running technique.
- Safety hurdles for safer use by the younger members.
- Hand held UHF radios to be used for communication with officials during the running of cross country events.
The laptop is to be used to increase the efficiency of administrative processing and to help determine race placing and recording onto the club website.
A significant aspect of athlete development is strength and conditioning training that results in better core stability for athletes. The CD program will assist this.
The hurdles and kick bikes will enhance the development of our athletes.
The printable stopwatch will enhance the effectiveness for running cross country and track events as results are recorded in hard copy.
From a safety perspective UHF radio communication should be maintained with officials manning the course for the Flying 4 and other cross country events. A first aid officer attends all occurrences of the Flying 4 and should first aid be required, having radio contact with officials would initiate a prompt response.
In June 2007 our application for funding of $7326 was approved. The club is now in the process of obtaining the nominated equipment. The June round of funding marks the 54th quarterly round of funding, taking the total amount of allocations to over $342 million, with more than 31,000 community based projects supported since the Fund began in 1994.
Ashgrove Rangers Athletics Club Inc. has a continual emphasis on participation and enjoyment of athletics with individuals choosing to what level they wish to achieve. We take a whole of community approach so that all members can access services equitably. This includes indigenous, gender, ethnicity, disabled, youth, juniors, and senior community members. Contact is maintained with the local schools to promote athletics in the region.
The acquisition of the funded equipment will further support the goals and objectives of the club.
