There is a lot coming up over the next week:

  • The AGM, 19 June, at the Norths Hockey club in Ashgrove (see on the right hand side under ’bulletin’).  Be there at 6pm, then you can also put in your pizza order ($6 per pizza).  Pizzas will be picked up at about 6:30.  The sports trivia night starts at 7pm, entry $5 for individuals and $10 for families.  You are also welcome to bring a plate or nibbles to share. Apart from members, friends and family of Ashgrove Rangers are welcome to have pizza and play trivia as well.
  • The next day is the Pat Carroll Cross Country Shield at Carseldine, which hosts championship events including the 12,000m.  For more information see here.
  • Then on Monday night 22 June we have special evening with a guest speaker to which coaches and ASR members are invited. Andrea Furst is a Sports Psychologist and will speak about some of the essential secrets to perform well!  This will be held at The Gap State High School shed after training at 7:30.

The QEII track club put up a nice meet last Saturday with the annual and 70th running of the Fox-Fogarty memorial cross country.

There were a number of handicap races with some good performances by the Ashgrove Rangers. Our youngest and oldest competitors of the day, Jessica Stacey and Peter James, improved most and both took out third place. Jessica in the Under 10 1000m and Peter in the 6000m.

Other good performances in the handicap results included 5th, 7th and 8th places in the 6000m by Hubertien Wichers, Paul Jackson and Geoff Crowther. Paul Tierney came 4th in the 9000m.

Results are in from the Flying Four Winter Handicap.
Thankfully the weather was slightly warmer than the cold snap of the previous few days but, even so, competitors found the conditions bracing. Many runners shrugged off tracksuit tops and various other apparel with mere seconds to go before their start. Things did not improve after the start with runners dragging in lungful after lungful of cold, dry air. Given the conditions, the results posted were very good.
The winners were:
1 Jarod Dodgson
2 Lyn Baker
3 Hermeiny Johnson
(Times have not been given because it was a handicap so times do not reflect the actual race time for the runner.)
For the women, the placegetters were:
1 Lyn Baker
2 Hermeiny Johnson
3 Kelly Cooper

For the men:
1 Jarod Dodgson
2 Gavin Poore
3 Ivan Rogers

In the under 14 year old 1.5 km race, the placegetters (boys & girls) were:
1 Ethan Johnson
2 Sophie Cooper
3 Anton McQueen

For those interested in outright times (which will count towards the year’s standings), the top three in the Flying Four were:
1 16:10.62 Hubertien Wichers
2 16:19.05 Graham Barralet
3 17:28.83 Rachel Effeney
